I saw a bunch of bands play last night at The Rivoli: All Day Driver and Mardeen. Mardeen are from Halifax, and All Day Driver have three members from St. John’s, so that means that the place was packed with people from the East Coast of the province. It was awesome being able to talk to some people from ‘home’.

A student catches up on his sleep in the later hours of a lazy Friday afternoon.
Candice and I spent some time last night peeling and chopping some apples that Candice used to make apple butter, dried apples, and fruit leather! She got a bag full of apples on Thursday after volunteering with a group called Not Far from the Tree which picks fruit from public trees and donates it to different groups around the city. Check the link to learn more, or watch our video blog to hear Candice talk about it.

I “snuck” into a show yesterday called the Canadian Music Cafe 2009, part of the Toronto International Film Festival. I say snuck because it was intended primarily for music and film executives. Oh well.
I had originally found out about it because I went to high school with one of the performers, Jon Janes a.k.a The Mountains and the Trees (http://www.rockandroots.com). His performance was excellent, and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get something out of performing for all those people in ties.
There are more photos from the show on Flickr, including ones from the other performing artists Hawksley Workman, Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees, and Amy Millan.

Attempting to merge our CD collections and create some sort of organizational system for them; mostly by genre, but also by who should be next to whom, or who should be on the other side of the shelf from another. In reality, there isn’t really a system per se, more so just a feeling: want a CD? What does it feel like? Go from there.

We went to an outdoor screening of Star Trek last night, put on as part of the Welcome Week festivities on the York campus. Fun time, great movie.

Spent the afternoon waltzing walking around downtown with Candice, eating raw fish and seeing what there is to see.

A pylon blocks the way over a lump of… dirt?
Nighttime wandering on the York campus. Very few people out and about, save for a few cats, raccoons and skunks.

York has a lot of large, strange sculptures around this campus. Most of them are pretty abstract and don’t make much sense. This one however, as seen outside Scott Library, is at least aesthetically pleasing.

After putting so much work into promoting good debt management practices, and promotion of grants over loans, this is what happens.
