This dude was sketched onto my desk at class last night. Sometimes you see some great little pieces of art penciled onto desks. But yet they’ll get looked at as graffiti and washed off. Sad.

A not-so-happy Valentines Day for Jorge

VCard

Candice found this ripped-up Valentines Day card on the sidewalk on Sunday, the day after Valentines Day. The lines on the inside of the card is the usual Valentines Card fair, but I felt the need to reproduce the lines that were written on the inside by the card giver. Note that these are reproduced exactly as they are on the card.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY
BABE, HOPE U Enjoy 2night
& Being with ME.

Sorry I didn’t get you
anything, I didn’t get
time, But I owe u
sumthing K.

LOVE U Jorge.

Liz

The top of the facing page has the following note:

ps. My present will be in
BED LATER! LoL… :)

We haven’t been able to figure out exactly why the card ended torn up on the sidewalk, but many speculative stories have been circulated. We’ll hold a committee meeting tomorrow to attempt to finalize the reason.

Sunny Day at Nathan Phillips Square

While meandering through Nathan Philips Square and waiting for Candice to finish up at a meeting, I caught this photo. It was a very sunny day, and the reflections were beautiful. The people skating on the outdoor rink seemed to really enjoy it too.

Happy Vamlumtimes Day Internet. We aren’t huge Valentines Day fans, but I did pick up this nice rose for her. And look at the gorgeous picture I got out of it!

The prof said it, it must be true:

Man. Look at those messy scribbles. Could be worse. Give it a few years.

After struggling through a bunch of assignments and an exam for school this week, it was nice to take an opportunity to look at some Math notes with much less dismay as usual; as art instead of frustration. Math in general does not frustrate me, but the course that the featured notes are from certainly does.

However, now it’s the weekend and weekend activities are ongoing - namely, grocery buying and waiting for the bus (not necessarily in that order).

A school divided?

Gaza Pano 1-1

As I’ve probably mentioned before, Vari Hall at York University is often the site of protest and demonstration. The Palestinian Association at York has been planning for the past couple of weeks to hold a demonstration in Vari Hall to bring awareness to the current conflict between Israel and Gaza.

As you can see in the above picture, two groups of people turned up: on the left, Gaza supporters, and on the right, Israel supporters. Is the school separated based on religious and political beliefs, or allegiances to countries a half-world away?

Um, no, not really. There are conflicting groups on the campus, but the majority of students don’t care and probably didn’t even know this was going on. Apathy continues to be the number one subscribed to belief system among young adults.

I wasn’t expecting fog when moving to Toronto.

We’ve been on the receiving end of some interesting weather patterns recently. The mercury has risen above its recent fling with Antarctica, and the cold, biting winds have been replaced by drizzle and fog. Lots of fog. Seriously. We could barely see out of our apartment window. Granted, we are on the fourteenth floor, but it was more like St. John’s than Toronto.

I can only listen to this guy stutter for so long.

So I have this night class. It’s about three hours long on Tuesday nights, from 7pm until 10pm. It’s a math class, and normally that would be okay with me, however this particular mathematical subject is incredibly boring. It doesn’t help that the professor is rediculously slow and monotonous, so much so that I’m pretty sure his droning puts me to sleep each class. Okay, maybe not, but I come really really close.

To beat the boredom, after class I took the camera out for a couple of minutes and ended up shooting my first ’self-portrait’ with my new camera lens and I think it turned out quite well.

Busy

So York has been busy. So busy in fact, that you actually have to use the crossing lights sometimes to cross at the intersection.

In other news, school is crazy busy. Looking forward to Thursday afternoon when I’ll have both a test and assignment done, and not too much work to do for the rest of that day.

Love the colors in those clouds!

It was another warm-ish and sunny day in Toronto. Snow has been melting little by little (not that there was that much to begin with), and there’s supposed to be rain and higher temperatures in the next few days. What is this? Spring? In February? Or for that matter, March? Man… Toronto is weird.
